New York City Music - Live Music VenuesDoc Watson'sIrish excess grounded with warm service and Celtic melodies.
The SceneLike most Irish pubs, this one's packed with Emerald Isle bric-a-brac: soccer memorabilia, leprechaun statuettes, T-shirts emblazoned with four-leaf clovers and bartenders boasting authentic Irish brogues. Yet because it's located on the Upper East Side, it has loftier pretensions: The lamps above the sleek wooden bar look like Tiffany knockoffs, and the walls are decorated with reproduction vintage tin advertisements for Coca-Cola. Downstairs, the game room offers a pool table and darts and, in the back, a secluded garden allows patrons to drink alfresco in the summer. The DrawNeighborhood denizens (think Wall Street brokers) looking to reconnect with their Celtic heritage flock to Doc's for friendly service, inexpensive drinks and upscale bar eats. Sunday evenings the traditional Irish band Aonach hosts three-hour jam sessions, but most nights revelers play the entire oeuvre of U2 on the jukebox. 1490 2nd Ave |
