December 7th at 9:00pm A 100-foot tree in 1948 was the tallest in Rockefeller Center history, and came from the Killingworth, Conn., yard of Jim and Cathy Thomson. ''It looks like it belongs here,'' said Jim Thomson, who was joined by 20 family members for the lighting ceremony. ''It was ours, now it belongs to the world.'' Maybe this year's will be taller? Over 25,000 lightbulbs are used to light the tree. Amazing huh? They span a distance of over 5 miles. The event which is televised nationwide on has local Television Stars amongst others. The Mayor himself would often take part in this yearly tradition. At one year's show music was provided by the likes of Tony Bennett, Stevie Nicks, Destiny's Child, Marc Anthony, and more....Even the Rockettes were there! Winter's Eve at Lincoln Center plus Christmas Tree Lighting. "Winter's Eve at Lincoln Square": Free Entertainment, Family Fun, Dining, Shopping & Much, Much More. WHO & WHAT: The Lincoln Square Business Improvement District (Lincoln Square BID) will host its 3rd Annual "Winter's Eve at Lincoln Square," a giant neighborhood happening featuring a feast for all the senses -- free entertainment, family fun, kids activities, dining and shopping around and about this colorful and vibrant neighborhood. The festivities will follow Lincoln Center's traditional holiday tree lighting. Restaurants, shops, and cultural organizations in the district will be buzzing with activities for both children and adults, making for a festive fun-filled stroll through the streets within this dynamic upper west side neighborhood.
