W Hotel New York hotel description>>

Not Horrendous
Reviewer: New York visitor, Boston, MA

I was completely taken aback by the review that titled the experience at the W as Horrendous. I mean, it is not the Plaza, but come on...I stayed at the W New York in June 2003 and had a very nice experience...Sure, the rooms were small, but what boutique hotel has big rooms? They were exquisitely decorated and the bed was a dream. Sure, the closet was small...This is a hotel you don't stay for more than a weekend, so you don't need a lot of clothing anyways. The bathroom was OK and always very clean.Check the minibar, sometimes they don't check it and may charge you stuff you didn't use. But a 1-minute phone call to the Whatever/Whenever extension magically solved the problem (as the one with the icemaker which was broken in my floor and when I asked for ice I received it in less than 3 minutes EVERY TIME).All in all, it is a nice hotel. Even more so, if you pay $157 a night, like myself. It is very well worth it once you put on the FABULOUS terry cloth robe, pump up the soul CD player located next to the incredible goose-feathered bed and just lay down and watch TV!!!

Disappointed...

I had heard great things, and I liked the concept... unfortunately, I ended up being disappointed. Too long to explain, but I added a night to my reservation 2 months prior to arrival and even though I notified Starwood, and the front desk I still had to switch rooms mid-way through my stay. Minorly annoying. Upon arrival in my room (which was small, but quite nice) I noted there were wet crumpled towels in the desk. The mini-bar checker arrived in our room before 9am. They did not replace our toiletries AND they didn't make the bed. Sure, there was incense, and funky music and cool lighting, but the basics seem to have been forgotten. There were good parts... the cocktails (albeit, served by a surly waitress) were great, the food (both at the restaurant and in-room) was fab and the staff was helpful when I kept going back to sheepishly mention the inadequacies. Next time I'll try somewhere else... pity too, since I really WANTED to like it.

Small room

Stayed at W New York on business trip. I'm 30, so I thought it wd be cool, trendy spot to stay. Definetely trendy, but INCREDIBLY SMALL (EVEN FOR NY STANDARDS). I didn't even have the smallest room type. Evidently, there was something smaller called the "cozy" room. Can't imagine. The bed in my room took the ENTIRE space. No dresser for your folded clothes. GLad I was traveling alone. The closet space was tiny! And the bathroom....luckily, I'm a very thin person. I had to squeeze into the bathroom because the door would not open all of the way due to the inside wall. On the good side, the bed is comfortable! But NOT worth feeling like you're living in a closet. (And I live in DC, so accustomed to cramped spaces, but not this cramped!!)
