West Park Hotel hotel description>>

Adequate hotel, but a somewhat sullen staff
Reviewer: New York visitor, Europe

Had an ok stay at the Westpark, arrived late in the afternoon, and experienced a few anxious moments while my reservation wasnt found - but it was sorted out quite quickly. The room was quite big, but dull, the one chair in the room was unsteady, and the bed was soft and not entirely comfortable. The view was a brick wall, and the window leaked cold air. My main problem with the stay was the temperature in the room, it was very cold at times, and the heaters worked only certain periods of the day. Late in the evening the room became distinctly chilly and uncomfortable. This was in late winter, so adequate heat should have been available. The room was clean, and the maid service was entirely satisfactory. The rest of the staff was helpfull, but perhaps a bit sullen - they didnt go out of their way so to speak. I booked via the net, and considering the price level in NYC I feel what I got at the Westpark fitted the bill I paid at departure. I feel that a rating of 2 is appropriate, but the great location adds to the attractivness of the hotel, - it deserves 3 all in all.

Nightmare at West Park

Recently booked in at the West Park after finding them on a New York City boutique hotel website (alongside the Hudson and other upscale boutique hotels). Checked in to an extrememly tiny room with yellowed flourescent lighting, scratchy bedding on a double bed placed against the wall
(we had requested a king), and a bathroom sink with an unworkable plug. The desk staff were very apologetic and recommended we find another hotel (in the pouring rain on a busy holiday weekend). No accomodation was made with regard to price as staff said they had no ability to discount,
athough they agreed we were given a below standard room and told us this was a frequent occurance. Certainly not comparable to the room described on the internet. Beware, the lobby has been given a nice facelift, but rooms were left behind. Also note major construction of the Time Warner building across the street and noise should be expected.

Central Park on your doorstep

We stayed at the Westpark before it was renovated last year. The room was perfectly adequate, though a bit dark due to a view of a rear courtyard and walls, and a reasonable size by New York hotel standards. The staff were helpful and friendly. The best thing though was the location - adjacent to Columbus Circle - and therefore a stone's throw from Central Park. Less noise as well than on the East Side. The Metro and bus stops are very close and there are plenty of restaurants and delis around (57th St/Columbus Ave). Fifth Avenue shops are just three blocks east. Would definitely return.
