Ramada Plaza New Yorker hotel description>>

Hotel from hell
Reviewer: New York visitor, Nottingham, England

Where do i start? Our 2nd trip to new york 1 - 4 November 2003 and we stayed at the Ramada New Yorker. Big Mistake! Lobby very nice and was very happy until we got out of the lift. 23rd floor and found a load of drunks laying on the floor watching us. Got to the room and we were only there 2 Mins before returning to reception. It was dark, so tiny couldn't get 3 suitcases in the door and a view of 2 brick walls. Jumped queue and played merry hell especially since we'd requested refurbished room with a view and paid extra for this. Room changed to 26th floor. Hallways still in same deteriorated condition but no drunks. Room abit bigger and had a view of empire state but windows so dirty could hardly see through them. In need of serious refurbishment but it was clean. Hairdryer ok for 5mins then smokes. Aircon / heater very noisy. No security down stairs to stop anyone wondering hotel until last day. Unhelpful staff i.e. Wanted them to make reservation for us but that was to much trouble. Was told to us house phone and dial 0. Did this and was told reservations was close. (3pm) E-mailed them about transfers advertised on their web site. They replied it was super shuttle. Tried to book return journey at desk and was told they don't use super shuttle and refered us to bus! Spoke to bell-porter and arranged "City Cars" through him. $45 all-in all leather lexus. (cheaper than yellow cab) Paid £350 for 3 nights for 2 people. Not inc flights. Very expensive for a very drabby hotel. Unless its necessary to stay here then DONT!!!

Last resort!

Old noisy air conditioner, tiny window, needs updating, thin walls. Moonies own it! Not the worst but close. Edison Hotel much better for similar price.

Not as bad as everyone says

I was hesitant about staying at the New Yorker after reading the reports on this website. Yes, the hallways are drab and dark and yes, the rooms are small (although very clean and tidy). But who cares, you are in New York, the city that never stops and if you want to spend more time in your hotel room than taking in this glorious city, then you are very sad bunnies indeed!New York was great, the hotel was comfortable and sufficient and I have no complaints at all about the staff.
