What to expect: Built in 1939 for the New York World's Fair and fresh from an $85-million makeover in 2002, this Hilton flagship is New York's largest hotel. Always busy with meetings and events, yet with plenty of tranquil oases for guests, the Hilton attracts leisure travelers along with business professionals and many international guests.

Amenity highlights: Everything at the Hilton is fresh-the lobby's centerpiece abstract sculpture, the fifth-floor spa and fitness center with steam rooms and sauna, and a business center offering computer workstations, Internet access (fee), and equipment and cell phone rentals.
