New York > New York Hotels > Book this hotelHabitat Hotel New York hotel description>>
My husband and I just got back from New York, we stayed at the Habitat. Our experience at the hotel did not include some of the others experiences but alot of it is the same. We did have a tiny room, when I stretched my arms across the room there was about 3 to 4 feet to the other wall. When you take out the trundle there is NO room to walk around the bed. It did have air-conditioning, make sure you ask for that if you go during the summer, it can get quite hot and sticky. We did have cable and a shared bathroom. We never had to wait for the bathroom (we took our showers at night, but when we left each morning they were empty also). The bathrooms were always clean but they were not air conditioned so it was rather hot in the shower. (I took cool showers to compensate.) There were strange people in the hotel, but we saw just a few and they did not bother us. We stayed on the 12th floor, in 1213, my husband and I noticed that most of the rooms had regular card entry hotel door handles. There were a few rooms that had old fashion key entry doors, we assumed that is where some of these elderly people lived. We did not explore the hotel at all, we only slept there. If I had a family I would not go there, but my husband and I are trying to pay off debt and it was a great deal for four nights (67.50/night on hotels.net). If you are watching your budget I would recommend this hotel. The staff held our bags when we came in, the maid made our bed each day and the hotel was close to the Central Park, Bloomingdale's and all the shops on 5th Ave. and 57th. If you can afford it go somewhere else, but basically it met our needs. A cool place to sleep and take a shower.
I made my first trip to NYC in September 2003 and stayed at the Habitat. The hotel was basic, but clean enough. I had not expected the "shared bath" situation, but they were also clean enough and I only once had to wait. I could see the Chrysler building from my hotel room (although the windows were filthy). Looking at other hotels that I can get deals at a similar price this year, I don't think I'll be going back. I had a wonderful time though, and the hotel did nothing to spoil it for me.
I stayed here in July 2002. Small room. Not super clean, but clean enough. Saw a roach though. The bathrooms were again, not spic-n-span, but not filthy. I'm not sure about the other reviews which indicate indigent people staying in the hotel -- I didn't see any. No bed bugs in my room. The staff was helpful -- they held my bags before I checked in and after I checked out. Great location right in mid-town manhattan. I would try it again if it was all my budget would allow. |
