New York > New York Hotels > Book this hotelBentley Hotel hotel description>>
$139 a night can't get you the best room in the joint, but it wasn't bad, considering it is Manhattan. You also can't get the best view all the time (facing the animal hospital; overlooking the Mobil gas station). It wasn't until after we already had our room on the 4th floor that we were able to see what other rooms had to offer. Best bet would've been a suite with a view, (probably costing another $100). Our room did have a fourth story view of the 59th St Bridge. We did like the modern decor, but a standard room is a little small, yet still nice. Best part, by far, was the modern-style bathroom in all marble. The half-open shower is definitely interesting. The biggest disapointment was the 21st floor restaurant bar that was closed down for remodeling or something. It definitely needed it. That top floor restaurant SHOULD be the pride and joy of the hotel, with its gorgeous skyline view. Yet we still enjoyed the Bagel breakfast, and the 24 hour complementary cappacino. The Bentley Hotel was nice, but it could have been much better.
We stayed at the Bentley for 2 nights. We were supposed to have two double beds and a river view. Instead we had one double bed and a view of the emergency pet clinic next door(complete with floor to ceiling cages and lights that stayed on all night). We complained about the bad smell in the room and they said they would "spray". On the second night we were awakened at 2am by the smoke alarm. We awoke to the smell of something akin to burning rubber and smoke hovering at ceiling level. They said it was probably the air conditioner. When we asked where we were going to stay they said they didn't know because they had no rooms left. As I was outside getting air- my throat was raw and irritated from what I found out later was probably freon- my husband raised enough of a fuss for them to find us a room at Amsterdam Court, their sister hotel. When we got there - somewhere around 3:30 am - the only room they had left was a tiny basement unit.At least the staff there was friendly, even offering to get me water or make me coffee. At the Bentley they acted like we were inconveniencing them because they had to find us a room. Oh- and by the way, they expected us to pay them for that night. Save up a few more dollars and go to another hotel. This place is awful.
Terrible, Absolutely terrible. The hotel sits atop a gas station at the corner of a busy intersection next door to an animal hospital. If you like the constant sound of cars honking thier horns all day and all night this is for you. Two out of the three elevators didn't work for the first three days we were there. The rooftop restaurant was closed for the first three days we were there and another guest I spoke with had said that it hadn't been open during their entire stay. The bar had sporadic hours. Room service was horrible. We didn't have soap one day, no bath mat the next. I had to ask two days in a row for additional hangars. The staff in the lobby either didn't seem to know about the problems or didn't care. I had to call the president of the company in order to get any response from this hotel. I paid in advance (big mistake) or I would have left after the first night. The location besides being noisy wasn't that great to bgein with. I'd say we spent maybe two days on that part of Manhattan and everything else you'd want to see is downtown. The furniture is badly in need of replacing in the rooms, the lobby, and the restaurant. The "cappucino bar" is nothing more than a machine sitting in a little alcove off of the main lobby. The free news paper is the two-section Financial Times. (Not even worth reading if you are a stock broker). Whoever wrote positive reviews about this hotel is obviously an employee of the company. I can't think of any redeeming qualities about this hotel. Not even one. |
