New York City's Best SteakhousesDel Frisco's Double Eagle Steak HouseA Texas-sized steakhouse strives mightily to shed its chain-restaurant roots.
The SceneDel Frisco's clientele is solidly of the martini- and gin-and-tonic-drinking sort. The restaurant is large and comfortable enough to feel like it's been around for a while, but there are reminders (e.g., a menu that declares "not responsible for well-done steaks!") that the place is, after all, owned by the Lone Star Steakhouse corporation. The space is gigantic, with 480 seats spread across three floors of the McGraw-Hill Building. The FoodA standard lineup of good-quality steaks offered at top-quality-steakhouse prices. A nicely charred 16-ounce porterhouse revealed layers of smoke, salt, pepper and succulent beef jus. Steakhouses are generally known as much for their sides as professional baseball pitchers are for their hitting, and Del Frisco's isn't about to break the mold. In general, portions vacillate from obscene (a foot-high tower of onion rings) to paltry (a bland, greasy crab cake appetizer). 1221 Sixth Ave |
