The Scene

In an airy, quasi-industrial space, the cleverly named 'wichcraft--thenew venture from the brilliant minds behind neighboring Craft andCraftbar--serves an eager lunch crowd. The service is counter-only,and most customers take their sandwiches to go, but there's a spare butcomfortable seating balcony upstairs, from which diners can watch theaction below.

The Food

Each sandwich here, hot and cold, makes for a deluxe lunch, with afinely balanced harmony of ingredients. A tender baguette filled withsucculent Sicilian tuna is accented with olive pieces and thin slices offennel and lemon; thin-sliced pork loin is given a twist with jalapenosand ribbons of red cabbage. On house-made country bread, vinegarymarinated anchovies, soft egg, and sweet roasted onions marry perfectly.Daily soups, including a golden beet puree with pesto, are excellent aswell, and the house-made pastries, such as thepeanut-butter-and-chocolate "black and tan'wich" end the meal withflair.
